  1. Fill a bowl with cold water and place your eggs in the bowl. If they sink to the bottom and lay flat on their sides, they’re very fresh. If they’re a few weeks old but still good to eat, they’ll stand on one end at the bottom of the bowl. If they float to the surface, they’re no longer fresh enough to eat. I cannot guarantee that this would work with all eggs in the USA because they are washed and chlorinated, free range eggs should be okay though.

  2. The trick is to fill a bowl with cold water and place the eggs in it. You’ll probably have heard that if an egg rises to the top it’s gone off. But you can also tell which are still edible, but should be cooked as soon as possible. When eggs are very fresh, they will sink to the bottom and lay on their sides. If they’re a week or so old, they will still sink to the bottom of the bowl, but the bulbous end of the egg will slowly rise up. When over three weeks old, the egg will balance on the pointy end, with the fat side pointing upwards. Any bad eggs won’t touch the bottom of the bowl at all, in fact, they’ll be floating along the surface of the water.
