Before you begin wasting resources on advertising, you probably should analyze your market and your target audience. One of the easiest ways to do this is by taking a look at other companies that are offering similar products and services – companies that will most likely be your competitors. By studying what they are doing, you can see what works and what doesn’t without going through the process of trial and error yourself. You those already established companies as your case study. Find out what customers would think about your products and services by conducting online surveys or focus group sessions – whatever works best for you. How do you find consumers to obtain data from? Simply placing an ad online and offer small compensation and you’ll get plenty of willing subjects. Just make sure that they belong to the demographic you are targeting.

It would appear that the simplest, most straightforward and practical way to study a market is to buy and use the products currently in that market – especially the most popular/well reviewed products, from your potential competitors. Then compare your experience with the reviews on the products you try. You’ll find out where you most want to differentiate your product from the popular products. Use the shortcomings of the popular products to your advantage.
