It depends on what your ultimate goal is. If you are adopted and looking for your birth family, then start with AncestryDNA because you will also get a list of relative matches and you have the ability to download your raw DNA results to Family Tree DNA and DNA.Land for more possible matches. It also provides family trees that you can check and compare with your other relative matches. There are several tools to easily download the information and compare it. FTDNA also provides a large gene pool of over a million people and a chromosome comparison tool to see where you match with people. If you still have money to spend, then go to 23andme.com. If you don’t need the health reports, just get the cheaper ancestry version. 23andme is reporting that soon you will be able to upload a family tree to their site. They also have a large gene pool of over a million people. You have to fish in all the ponds if you are looking for birth family. You can read more at sites like Find My Family Magazine your one stop source to find your family.

There are many DNA tests available, but before making a choice you should check on what each one of them provides as an outcome and at what price. Some of the most popular DNA tests are- Gini, AncestryDNA, 23andme, MyHeritage, FTDNA. You should first be sure if you are going for a DNA test due to genealogy history reasons or for health, nutrigenetics reasons. Almost all of the above DNA testing companies use the same testing hardware for genome sequencing and hence the outcome in terms of raw DNA report is similar. The only difference is what each one of these provides the user in terms of reports and extensions/ applications to use results in day to day life.
