If you’re feeling intimidated by someone, know that only your fear is their source of power. The day you stop being intimidated by them is when the intimidation stops and they become powerless. Find out what intimidates you exactly. Learning to speak up for yourself can be an uncomfortable, yet absolutely a life-changing process. When you look inward, challenge the stories you’ve been telling yourself about those who intimidate you, and use your voice, you gain confidence in yourself and your abilities and reclaim your personal power.

In the past, I idolized quite a few people who I felt so intimidated to meet. But then upon meeting and interacting with them I shockingly found that were not as kind-hearted as I had imagined. It’s all love, we all have our own demons to battle, but after enough of these experiences, I started to question the power I tend to quickly assign to those who intimidated me. We often either idolize or fear people in powerful positions. But power doesn’t always come with the tact or gentleness we should all strive to treat one another with. Power is just as likely to accompany a fragile ego as insecurity. And power fueling a fragile ego can be a particularly troublesome combination.
With enough of these experiences, I learned to change the way I judge people. Redefine things to reflect your unique values and you may find that the people you’ve been so intimidated by, aren’t so powerful after all.
