Although, solar panels themselves do not actually attract lightning, but your panels are unprotected and are hit by either a direct or indirect lightning strike the damage can be catastrophic.

Try to get surge protector devices, they work to protect you from both direct strikes and voltages induced by nearby strikes. They are installed on both sides of the inverter power circuit and on any inverter communication cables. They either direct the lightning to earth or block the surges from going any further. Surge protector is the one of the ethernet communications cables. So if you do nothing else, be sure to implement surge protection.

There are different protection systems that can be installed t protect your solar panel against lightning and thunder strikes. An air termination system is often installed to protect the building from uncontrolled lightning strikes. The system consists of cables, spanned wires, and conductors.
A correct design, dimension with more attention towards the corners and edges allows better protection against lightning. Surge protection devices are a part of the lightning protection system.
