We all know how the pandemic has affected everyone in different ways. Earlier this year, millions of people had to stay at home to help protect lives and prevent the spread of the virus. This meant millions of people were unable to work. Only those doing essential work, such as providing food or electricity, were able to continue. It also meant people spent less on non-essential things. How badly were you affected?
Since the shutdown 13rd of March 2020, caused by Corona Virus, my business has been closed and I needed to fire all my employees. I still could operate for take-away orders, which of course is not working the way it should because people are staying at home, and cooking at home and want to save money the best way possible. After 2 weeks of quarantine I am already considering to close my entire business, because even if I will be able to reopen, I still will loose more money. I keep asking myself what will happen after the whole pandemic— Will people still consider to go outside to meet people to have a coffee and a cookie for 5€? Will I be able to pay back the double of my costs, like rent and taxes, they are maybe reducing right now? Of course, I will loose my entire business, but l am already surviving with my savings, because I don’t have any other company, no other income, I am relying completely on my pastry shop revenue to pay my daily cost.
I started for the first time in my life with a Fundraiser on Cookona in Barcelona organized by Sabrina Settinger and my friends already donated some money to COOKONA, which will help me for 2 more weeks to operate without opening my Pastry Shop. I definitely can say, that my business got screwed in a really short period of time, and as it seems, I better decide quickly, if I am shutting it down completely or waiting to loose more of my private savings.
My business no longer exist anyway, pitiful thanks to the pandemic. There is no chance of revival. No business for now, creditors are pressurising for payment. Their workers are demanding advance payment to run their families. Bankruptcy is hanging on many businessmen. It is a grim situation everywhere. We are afraid of the pandemic.
It is destroying everything silently. We are already in deep trouble. We are going through a depressive condition. We are just surviving not living healthily. We know it is quite a distress status. We are simply holding on blindly to stay alive. I am not a pessimist. I have endured a lot. But I could walk freely in the past and try something or toil a lot to live better. Today there is no place to go. It looks like an endless wait for all city men and women. Big men like Kotak Mahindra talked about new priorities in the aftermath of pandemic. Unfortunately we are still in the midst of the pandemic. There is no space to explore. It is going to be a long wait. All of us must work to end the pandemic first.
