I’ve been on alcohol cleanse for 7years, there are times I just want to drink myself to stupor. I want to mentally prepare myself down for when I relapse.

  1. It is okay to have a hard time adjusting to sobriety, and you are not a failure if you relapse. Relapse occurs when a person returns to substance use after a period of abstinence. When this happens, it often leaves the individual feeling like a failure or like they don’t have what it takes to stay sober. A feeling of hopelessness can set in quickly, as the perception that they’ll never recover takes hold. However, it is important to understand that not only does relapse happen, it is quite common and, some might say, a natural part of the journey of recovery from addiction.

  2. Know that recovering from drug or alcohol addiction can be extraordinarily difficult and requires significant lifestyle and behavior change, which commonly includes a few slip-ups along the way. Take comfort in knowing that relapsing doesn’t make you or a loved one a failure. Recovery is an on-going and challenging process.
