I can confirm this, it is possible. I still hallucinate some times, although my therapist insists it’s sleep paralysis but I know it’s not. When I was a teenager, my friends and I decided to see how long we could stay awake. By the end of day 3, and just before I gave in and went to sleep, I was hallucinating that the walls were made of flowing liquid, and there were skeletal creatures that occasionally came out of them.
Hallucinations that aren’t induced by substances or mental illness are likely more common than they appear because people tend to hide them due to stigma. Different cultures and regions have their names for this situation, some see it as prophetic, like a person is going into a trance. Some see it as a state of failing mental health.
