Sleep is just like the food and air, we need sleep. It is something your body needs, not an option but extreme sleep deprivation can lead to death, just as sure as starvation does. When you sleep late, you’ll notice that your skin actually secretes more sebum, and this probably explains why it results in new acne. Again, from what I’ve read, a lack of sleep will promote stress and that causes an increase in the substance cortisol in the body. Cortisol in turn, causes the skin to secrete more sebum, which results in acne.

The causes of acne can be quite complex, so it’s difficult to separate this out. Sleep deprivation on its own probably doesn’t cause acne – otherwise we’d see an awful lot of people with small babies, or people in old age suffering from acne. However, sleep deprivation can change other things – fro example, you may be more prone to sugar cravings, or it may be associated with hormone imbalances, which can cause acne.
Getting a good night’s sleep may or may not improve your skin – but it will almost certainly improve your quality of life.
