Does it mean I have trust issues if I request that my partner signs a prenup?

  • 0

Prenup is the binding legal document that makes sure your partner doesn’t leave with your money after a divorce. Does it translate to trust issues?

Asking for a prenup is your right. Considering that you weren’t in a long term relationship with the woman or man you are about to get married to, this is a logical ask. Yes, the society has a way of sentimentalising everything but that doesn’t mean what you did was wrong. Maybe the woman or man felt like you didn’t understand or trust her enough, but that is a conversation you would have had to have with her telling her about how this is your hard-earned money and that you will love to trust her in the future, right now you feel vulnerable. You can even offer an additional clause of making the prenup null and void in future if you begin to trust her.

Countries like U.S. does have that already where couples discuss together regarding what all needs to be included in a pre-nupital agreement, which can greatly help when at the time of separation. While it may not be offensive to ask but such things can take out the basic essence of being together in a marital relationship. If the couples understand the need and importance of marriage system, such things like prenups are ideally unnecessary. But obviously, the world goes the opposite way as we see, which makes it mandatory to have a prenup to be on a safer side. The choice is yours.
