Do you see yourself getting married to someone who has bipolar disorder?

Bipolar disorder is a mood disorder that currently has no permanent cure. Given that it doesn’t have a permanent cure, can you marry someone suffering from the disorder? How well can you cope/live with them like that?

I would advise you marry such person, I cannot marry such person. The divorce rate for bipolars is much higher than the standard and your life will be marred by having to constantly deal with your partner’s illness. How much higher the divorce rate still appears to be an open question but if the usual rate is 50% then the often quoted 90% for one of the partners being Bipolar doesn’t seem reasonable to me. Additionally, since Bipolar Disorder is largely thought to be genetic your kids and their kids will quite possibly carry that burden with them.
My advice would be to do yourself a favour and partner up with someone with a better chance of being happy and making you happy.

You should marry the person you love and feel well suited with. If your partner is aware of their illness, takes meds or therapy to deal with it, that is a good start. Now what about you? Do you feel you are strong enough to weather it? Do you have good communication and healthy self-esteem and boundaries? Only you can decide. Bipolar disease is a very difficult disease and has a high divorce rate. Empathetic, often deep and feeling , creative and open-minded.
      Pre-marital counseling might be helpful.
