do rooms get smaller when painted?

is it a fact that rooms get smaller once they get painted or it’s simply a makeup of the mind?

The color itself will not change the perception of size. It’s little or lack of contrast which accomplishes that. A room full of colors will feel smaller and more crowded than one with walls, furniture and floors in a low contrast color scheme, and where clutter is at a minimum.

A room filled with so many bright colours will definitely look smaller. A lighter colour should be used in a small space. But remember that light doesn’t have to mean cream or white. You could use pale blue, pale lavender, light green, pale yellow etc. Don’t limit yourself to generic colours just because you think that will make the space appear bigger. Any pale shade will maximise the appearance of space.
