Hmmm… do university professors actually read through students long essays to make sure they meet up with the requirements and references?

Guys interacting with kids. It’s like we have to be super careful not to be seen as a creep. A woman can call kids cute or pretty and hug and coddle them. Guys? Nope. God forbid I call a little girl pretty and a boy handsome. Can’t even approach a kid who looks lost without seeming like a predator. This just bothers me a lot bc I’m a male who works in the mental health field and likes working with kids. Honestly, in my experience, if you are genuine, most people can sense your good intentions. But you still have to tread much more lightly than females.

The longest papers I ever written, even as a graduate student were 20 pages, Most college papers tend to fall in the 5-10 pages realm. In undergrad, most of my classes that assigned papers were smaller, so the professors would read them. In larger classes with papers, teachers would have assistants who would help with grading. I’ve watched a friend grade a paper before, and she basically skimmed for structure, specific terms and arguments, points of evidence, ect. Papers with clear arguments and good structure usually got better marks.

I try as much as possible to read everything my students write. Yes it is very time consuming and I do much of it at home. I assign some to my assistants too and go over it to double check, then leave a little note so they know their essay was read. It really matters. Sometimes when I am sick I will let it slide for a week. I just mean to say that students appreciate it when you show that you are invested in their work. It really does mean a lot to them.
