Some companies will put a ton of resources behind their management trainee programs in order for the individual to succeed. You will have on the job training, learning, projects to handle, people to supervise and mentoring / coaching. It’s a holistic view of you within their organization to take you from point A to Point B in the structure and set you up for long term sustained success within their organization. It’s similar to marketing in that the highest cost they will incur is on boarding a new hire so it’s wisest to spend the resources to retain them. The second type of organization is the complete opposite of this. They call it a management trainee so they can get by with paying less and are willing to accept the high churn rate of their new hires. When looking at a management trainee position balance your career goals, with what the organization is willing to offer you in return for your time, energy and focus.
It could vary from organization to organization. But, management trainee is position given for learning about different aspect of the job for a same role or it could be possible that you are moved to different departments in the organization before you start working for the one you have been selected. Some companies do give you a liberty to choose your own department after the trainee time is over. Also, it can be the time taken by the organization to know more about the candidates and how they perform?
