What’s the catholic belief of Adam and Eve?
The sin of Adam and Eve resulted in all of us being born with original sin, the state of being born without grace and with the tendency to do what is evil. The catholic church does not have an official teaching. We know that God created the universe, that Adam and Eve were the first man and woman, and that man is made in the image and likeness of God.
Many Christians including Catholics, recognize that Adam and Eve are fictional characters in a story that is meant to teach us about our relationship with God. Historically speaking, Adam and Eve did not exist. Within the context of Genesis and the Bible, Adam and Eve long predate Jesus and Christianity. As such, they were not Christians. Nor were Moses, Joshua, Abraham, Noah, or anyone else in the Old Testament.
