The colors that work on a website are the colors that give your visitors the greatest satisfaction and give you the greatest return on your investment. Every website is different and every goal for every website is different at least in context. Given that, whatever works for you and your identity are going to be the best possible colors. There are some trends that make websites more appealing for the time, but eventually, every color scheme gets boring and tedious. Slightly off-primary colors are gaining popularity, so rather than purple or blue, you’ll see a slightly lighter purple or light blue. Search the web for trends in colors and you will see that it is always changing. But regardless of which colors you use, the ones that work best will be the ones that satisfy your needs and give you the greatest return for your goals.

Some combinations of colors work and are popular. You must know them. They are usually colors which complete each other like Blue and Orange, Green and Pink. Some color scheme could be inspired from the nature like the green and flowers, ocean, cloud and sky. They can bring an atmosphere to your website. If you are targeting children as your audience, think towards bright and playful colors. If you are going for a minimalist blog or fashion website then consider cold or pastel colors which won’t clash with photos that you plan to post. News or informative websites want their written work to be under the spotlight, which means that even 2 colors may be enough for your website. It is a smart choice to use calmer colors, like blue and white along with simple black text so the reader is not distracted by the brightness of your website. This color combination is proven to the be most effective and appealing to viewers.
