Yes as long as you do all of the things to keep it taken care of. Also ensure that it is legal where you live, be sure to check, and as long as we are talking about an African Pygmy Hedgehog and not a wild European Hedgehog. You can find great information on the Hedgehog Welfare Society Facebook page, Volcano View Hedgehogs websites. I have an aunt who has two female hedgehogs, so it’s pretty cool actually.
Don’t get one unless you really, really want one. If you want one, the work will be worth it. They’re messy little things. I may be biased because I had 3. I suppose if I had just one, it wouldn’t be so hard. They’re really noisy at night, though, running on their wheel and chewing on their food. You need the proper equipment: electric thermometer, heating lamp, bedding, ferret cage, wheel, emergency supplies for accidental hibernation, snuggle sacks, etc. The hedgehogs themselves are rather expensive. Hedgehogs that stay spiked up and try to stab you with their quills.
