What are the probabilities that a car would sink if it falls or get thrown inside water?
It might very well float for a while, or partially fill up with water but still keep an air pocket for you to breathe in (for a little while). But if it were me, I’d open the windows and as soon as the water pressure is equalized inside and out, I’d leave the vehicle as soon as possible. Some people keep a tool, which is a combo seat belt cutter and hammer, under the seat to assist you in getting out. It’s a good idea if you are in an area where such an incident at a river crossing is possible
Hmmm… the car floats at first since it is filled with air. But as water starts to replace the air, it becomes heavier and sinks. They also stated that due to pressure differences it is hard/impossible to open the door in the first phase, so you should wait until the car is almost filled with water, take a deep breath, push the door open and swim to the surface.
