There has been a great change in the rate of how teenagers get depressed these days, it’s was never like that in the past— recent past. What has changed?
At this time and age, almost all teenagers are depressed, as though it’s something cool. Why?

there’s a lot more going on for teenagers now than there was back in the day. i’m not gonna say teenagers a while ago weren’t depressed, because i don’t know. I wasn’t there. but i’m a teenager now who’s been hospitalised and institutionalised for my suicide attempts. so I know a bit about the depressed teenage mind.
There is one, social media. the biggest stressor for any teenager who uses it. social media warps our views on how we should act, look, talk, and who we should be. we put way more pressure on ourselves to be what we see online and in magazines, because we have extremely unrealistic beauty expectations. another con of social media is bullying. I know, cliche, but we can’t get away from our school life of people being constantly mean to us because we are always connected to everyone. okay, another con. we are so pressured to grow up, we all want to be like our idols who are grown and make their own choices, it’s so easy to be discouraged.
The extreme amounts of pressure from our parents, or we have none at all. I’m mainly referring to school. I know people whose parents couldn’t care less about their grades. they just sit and do nothing all year in classes and their parents don’t get upset at all. I also know people whose parents put so much pressure on them they’re scared to not be a perfect student. All these, including the society, contribute to the rate of depression among teenagers these days.
Life is far more demanding now than it was years ago, yes I know ‘back in your day you had to do this and that’ but today things changed, we are more judgmental and critical, as a society more outspoken and also agressive and intolerant. Before all you had to do to avoid the most notorious bully in your school is to take a different route back home, now the bullies get you online and target you with the nastiest kind of comments the Alphabet can arrange, we have advanced to master the art of inflicting the most hurtful kind of pain we can using words and you’ll hardly find any of those insults to target anything else but physical apperance. Smartphones and social media are also something that affected teens directly a fundamental change in how they spent their time, not just an event in the news or a trend they heard about from their parents. When you allow a child at the age of 9 or less have their own tablet and adapt to spending all their time on it and isolate themselves from the world you are at fault. When a 15 years old girl is at home being told her success in life depends on how good she looks, how thin she looks, how big her breasts are how is she not gonna get depressed? When platforms like Instagran and SnapChat emphasize on the appearance factor and the most popular and most liked celebrities on both platforms are ridiculously goodlooking how can you tell someone just started transitioning to adulthood that life is fair and trust leading empowered women telling them to be themselves as they make those inspirational posts about self-acceptance from their online accounts while wearing the most expensive makeup money can buy and the retouched photos. This generation is a victim not overly-dramatic. Society has progressed to make your future depend on your physical appearance and your daily life routine under the mercy of judgmental friends and even family members who do not think before speaking. Everybody wants you to be happy until you’re happier than them, everyone wants you to be successful until your success threatens theirs. We don’t practice what we preach that’s why so many kids are suffering in silence, cutting or committing suicide, everyone wants to hear but no body listens. The economy is bad, the news reports are depressing, we watch innocents being beheaded as we are flipping channels and it no longer shocks the world, no place is safe from terror even concerts and nightclubs and unfairness and injustice to be a standard in our society whether its in relationships or work environment while the School system regards grades way up higher than actually educating children.
