Are their criteria to meet before you can be a writer on wattpad?

I use wattpad to cure my boredom, that’s the only time I use the app. I don’t enjoy reading on the platform because it seems there is no laid down criteria to meet before putting your story up there. There are too many inexperienced writers with low quality stories on the platform.

If you’re writing purely for pleasure and have close to no intention of publishing it then you are at the right place. It will help you get feedback and know you’re mistakes, weaknesses and strengths. If you want to publish your story one day and dream of becoming an author then Wattpad is not the right place to publish it because then people will already have read it and they won’t buy it. Even though Wattpad can help in advertising, I think the Radish app does it better because it asks the reader to pay some money for reading the chapters earlier than scheduled. After a while the chapters become free, though.
Now on to the content of your story. If you write teen fiction/ werewolf stories/ vampire stories/ Harry Styles fanfiction/ billionaire stories/ bad boy-good girl cliché, then Wattpad might be your heaven. It’s sad to say but Wattpad is mainly a homeland to teenage girls and this is exactly what they read. Even though some other genres do get popular, these are the evergreen ones.
Even if you are writing in one of these genres, competition, my dear, is stiff. But I think good work will always get popular. So if you just want to try out writing and know if it is your niche or not then Wattpad is what you’re looking for.

I think it to be a good platform, but a lot of it is fan fiction which isn’t necessarily bad per se and therefore has a lot of raving teenagers on there, but it does allow you to build a base with people reading your books and get to know them.
It’s good to start off with, however I personally reccomend archive of our own. This, too, has fanbases and such, however does not have book covers like wattpad.
