What other forms of punishment are available for illegal immigrants asides deportation?
It depends on country or state; some places like Belgium where illegal entry is a crime, you can face up to a year imprisonment with fine and also deportation. Some places will deport you for a particular period of time, while some will only collect fine.
In some countries, deportation is more of a civil matter. It is not a criminal matter, but you may be detained and deported. And if you are caught actually crossing the border, or found back in the country after being deported, those are crimes that you could get prosecuted and sent to jail for.
