Are there specialist doctors that attend to patients with ADHD?
Most pediatricians are familiar with ADHD and will write prescriptions for such condition if they believe medication is appropriate. However, the two specialties most familiar with this disorder are psychiatrists and psychologists. The psychologist can diagnose the condition and offer behavioral interventions. But except in a few states they do not prescribe medications.
A neurologist is the specialist that can help determine the degree to which ADHD is affecting a person’s behavior and lifestyle. This doctor would also be familiar with available treatment modalities. ADHD can be treated and managed for excellent outcomes. Work closely with the doctor and report regularly on results.
