When used correctly, you will have light side effects like redness and irritation. Depending on the strength of the peel, these side effects usually go away sometime between a few days, and a few weeks. Considering that most people use a light chemical peel – the side effects should last 2–3 days. When used incorrectly, a chemical peel can have stronger side effects that last much longer. For example, using a chemical peel too often, or applying too many layers at one time can lead to severe redness and irritation, as well as an uneven skin texture. Scrubbing or exfoliating too soon after the peel can also cause similar issues. If you use the peel as directed, let the area heal properly, your side effects should be slight, and temporary.
