Alcohol is more prevalent, certainly. Heroin addiction is harder to overcome. Alcohol is legal, quality controlled, socially accepted. Heroin is illegal, manufactured god-knows-where, handled by god-knows-who, and mixed with god-knows what. That said, heroin generally only poses a threat to the user from its use alone, while an alcoholic can get drunk, start the car, and put everyone between him and his house at risk. More people lose their lives to alcohol— and because of alcohol— every year than heroin users. Certainly, more crime is associated with heroin, related to production, distribution, etc. Alcoholism wreaks havoc on families emotionally and financially. Heroin addiction is the most difficult to overcome, alcohol withdrawal can be fatal.

Just realize that they are no longer in your life anymore. There is nothing more they could do to hurt you, there is nothing more they could do to help you. They are nothing to you and have no power over you. They are irrelevant now, really. We tend to think we have to get closure from the other person and it is the very thing they are dangling in front of our heads and teasingly not giving it to us. But even if that person did say all the things you wanted to hear, you still would have to find closure from that. Closure is from yourself, and only you have the power to give it to yourself. They have no power over you letting go, all that power belongs to you. Closure is by realizing that they are no longer relevant to your life now. It’s in the past, time to move on and focus on the wonderful people who are in your life.
