Once an addict will always be an addict but that does not mean they will engage in the same destructive or deceptive behaviours that were likely present in active addiction and the personality of an individual in recovery may look and feel different than when in active addiction. If they were dishonest while in active addiction it does not mean they will be untrustworthy in recovery. Recovery is a lifetime of work but the gifts of recovery start with the chance to actually live a lifetime.
