But don’t fall into the trap of believing that extreme jealousy and possessiveness are positive traits, and don’t excuse this behavior with her being in love and wanting to protect you. Instead take it as a warning sign and walk away. It is not healthy, it is not good, and, worst case scenario, it can be dangerous.

Because raising a child is an extraordinary commitment. It also requires a significant financial investment. It is in the best interest of the child to have two committed adults raising a child rather than this extraordinary commitment to be placed on one person. With two people, if one is tired, ill or incapacitated in someway, there is another adult to still care for the child and continue the daily routine without too much interruption to the child’s life. Depending on what state you live in you may run into a little more resistance. Additionally as a single person you may be questioned about your sexual orientation in some places. In international adoption, there are some countries that will not allow single persons to adopt.
