Trust is like a wall, you can build it, strengthen it, but you can also break it down. And sometimes, you can ruin the entire foundation of the trust with just a single lie depending on the severity. But it can be rebuild, if both decide to be honest and prove it, show vulnerabilities and talk about why the need to lie was there. A lot of times lies serve two purposes: We lie to avoid being judged and to spare other’s feelings. Usually lies have good intentions, but they obviously have the ugly presumptions that: You’re stupid enough to believe something that I’m making up and that my fear is more important than your trust in me. Everyone is fearful sometimes, it’s human, and a panic reaction can be to lie. The key is to diminish the fear of judgment and thus create a foundation where lies are not necessary. That way, you can build up trust once again. Right after a lie, you should only trust with things that you would not be too hurt about no matter the outcome.

Time committment to the SRC is taking time away from their studies of course. Most student extracurriculars are designed to enhance the student life experience. The SRC has time demands from the students that it represents and to the University administration. If it pays a stipend it may help relieve any financial needs of the student; however, it is up to the student to make this privilege an accomplishment and not the epitome of a young career. It may be hard to rub elbows with the University’s Board of Trustees and chief administrators and return to being a lowly student; but it is the reality of life.
