Toxic masculinity is what is taught to a lot of men that they’re not allowed to cry or show their emotions, that it’s a sign of weakness to get help for mental health, and that if they’re being abused by their partner the only correct solution is to just sit there and take it. And that’s just straight men— I haven’t even gone into all of the ways that a lot of aspects of toxic masculinity are inheretly homophobic and how they negatively affect gay men. When people hear toxic masculinity, they assume it’s against men. It’s not— it negatively affects men just as much as it does women.
