One very common way to find out if someone has low self-esteem is to give them a compliment. Of course, there are people with perfectly fine self-esteem who don’t know how to respond, but most people will simply say “thank you”. However, people with low self-esteem will look a bit shy or uncomfortable. They will look unsure and most likely look away.
See lessAccepting a compliment may feel like agreeing with that positive aspect which they don’t see in themselves, which is why responding to compliments can be exceptionally difficult for someone with low self-esteem. However, failing to do this does not mean that they don’t appreciate the things you’re saying.

Even then, it is just supposition on my part for the purposes of the question. However, as an outsider watching from the sidelines, I can’t help but think that a lot of this could be prevented with some tweaking of what looks like a bizarre mishmash of systems there. Announcing the tally of votes as the count is still going on? That in itself encourages stress and accusation. Would it not be better to wait until the count is done and agreed then release the result? That way no candidate can be accused of wanting vote counting stopped because the tally isn’t going their way. They wouldn’t know until after the count is complete.

There are no doubt lots of other adjustments that could be made, but the current patchwork they have just provides a feeding frenzy for lawyers and media pundits and leaves the average voter a bit in the dark.
