In the case of a non-refundable ticket, you may be able to get a refund of the taxes portion of it, which can be significant, but there are often large administrative fees associated with this to make it usually not worth the hassle.

My own technique is to use moisturizer soap in the shower. I spread the soap on my hands as if I’m washing them. I spread the soap all around my ears and around the outer ear canal. Then I let the water from the shower spray onto my ears one at a time as well as let the very warm water flow into the ear canal. Then I tilt my head to let it drain. I do this a couple of times for each ear. I have never had pain or wax problems. Is this the safest way to clean your ears? I’m not sure, but it’s what I do.
