Do you think the design flaws in airplanes contribute to plane crashes?

An airplane or helicopter can be made without a single aircraft design defect, but one of its component parts might still have a manufacturing defect. For instance, a critical part might not be machined exactly to design specifications and be installed on the aircraft. If the part is not a perfect fit, as required by the plans and specifications, and it fails and causes a crash, the manufacturer is responsible even if it did everything it was required to do to try to make the part correctly.

Sometimes the plane or helicopter and all of its components are well-crafted and free of defect, but due to faulty maintenance the plane or parts fail to work as expected.

See lessI’m American, but I have lived in Brazil for 35 years. This happened some years back, I had gone to the States on a business trip and was returning to Brazil. I’m 6′2″, very white,I mean the typical American looks. I was wearing casual clothes and reading a book in English while waiting for my flight from Florida to Sao Paulo. There were two Brazilian ladies sitting directly opposite from me, smartly dressed, who were chatting in Portuguese about how awful the food is in the US.
I was snickering to myself, trying very hard not to laugh, but I lost the battle. I burst out laughing out loud. They looked up, looking horrified, “You speak Portuguese? You understood what we said?” They apologized profusely.
“Yes, I live in Brazil, I understood every word that you said. And I agree with you wholeheartedly, Brazilian food is much tastier!”
We had a good conversation while we waited for the plane.
