      It is hormonal and is perhaps an evolutionary advantage. If you are living in a pre-historic tribe, having your periods with all the other ladies means that you don’t miss out on potential mates you will go to other ladies when you are not ‘available’. In any case the human menstrual cycle is tied to the lunar cycle of 29 days, and since the reasons for the tie up are the same for all ladies, it is logical that the periods will sync. Perhaps it is only after invention of artificial lighting and the subsequent disturbance of the diurnal cycle that significant differences in ‘period’ dates happened.

It helps you build a history, not just as a person whose written English is good, but, also, as a person who can fashion out enjoyable stories or articles. It goes without saying that writers want their editors and proofreaders to be writers too.

      It is only commoner in autism than in other cognitive disorders, but it is very rare even in autistic individuals, and about half of the people with savant syndrome are not autistic.
