You get drunk way faster. It’s because the alcohol gets digested faster than it would if mixed with food, also the food tends to absorb some of the alcohol well. This is why people need to be careful drinking on an empty stomach. You could have one strong beer and be drunk. This happens a lot when people go out for a beer without eating, then end up being drunker than they normally would have and could be at risk for a DUI or other.
For my when I had a full stomach or at least ate, I could have several beers and not be drunk. if I didn’t eat, I could have one strong beer and feel wasted. Often put me in bad situations where I had to drive and could get a DUI because I wasn’t expecting to be drunk.
