Good writing should flow with a kind of beauty and intrigue that attracts. But what draws in one reader is often over the head of another.

Original content- Does the writers have something to say that is not frequently heard, or is a common situation regarded from a different point of view?
Recognizable goal – Is the writer going somewhere with the story or essay? Can this path be followed through aside and detours? Is the goal given away at the beginning and the writer keepings looping around in repetition?
A touch of reality – No matter how much fantasy is involved settings and characters must possess a touch of reality. Can I understand the characters and their motives? Are their struggles real? Is their world depicted in a manner so I can envision it?
Poetic style – Even in prose I am attracted by the music of words, phrases that play with repetition and variation, and sentences that are not what I’ve heard frequently but are still comprehensible.
What is the best way to handle unsolicited advice from people?
Stop telling people what's going on in your life. That way they have no opinion or advice to give you whatsoever. Seriously though, people like telling others about themselves. It's how we socialize. Stop telling people what’s going on in your life. That way they have no opinion or advice to give you whatsoever. Seriously though, people like telling others about themselves. It’s how we socialize. Perhaps don’t let people about problems in your life that you don’t want advice on, but completely shutting them off in order to prevent unsolicited advice seems like an empty world to me.
