Some know their exact condition and can recognize its symptoms. Others have more and less lucid phases, where they go between knowing and not knowing. Others know that something is wrong with their minds but not what, or misattribute it to a bodily illness. Still others are in denial and believe they’re completely healthy, and/or that everyone else is mentally ill. I don’t know whether there are any conditions where a person categorically cannot recognize themselves as ill

No I don’t believe it’s possible. I think it’s part of being a human. All animals dream. since we are basically an animal with a larger brain, why wouldn’t we dream. The brain needs to process too much information to filter only in the waking state. They’ve done sleep deprivation experiments on humans and they begin to have hallucinations. Which might just be dreaming while awake. Who knows? The mind is a complex and little known wonder no matter how many electrodes they paste on and record.
