It means to be “awake” to systemic injustice. I always thought it was a good word for capturing that feeling when you start to see systems for what they really are. Because once you see it, it becomes impossible not to see, like waking up from a dream to see how things really are.

This is a comment I receive rather too often, thus making it a life mission to correct whoever passes that comment, and no matter how many times they do, I’ll always be there to correct them. Often times people tell me I look like my dad. Now, that’s a real weird comment. I don’t see my dad as a sharp dude, do that mean I’m like him? Okay, I’ll assume they mean “looks” when they say I look like my dad. My dad is one “just there” person. I always wonder how he managed to bag my mom even.
