Unfortunately, this has become a fairly common occurrence. I was just talking with a guidance counselor at a very well respected middle school. She told me that every year now there is some kind of problem with preteen kids exchanging inappropriate pictures of themselves. I think the best approach is to explain to her that you understand that this is a time when a lot of kids are experimenting with their emerging sexuality. It is totally normal to wonder and think about sexuality at this point. Phones, the internet, and pictures, can feel like they exist in an imaginary world, not the real world, but actually, the things we do online have real-world consequences. These consequences can be serious, dangerous, or just down-right embarrassing. This conversation is an opportunity for you to lay the groundwork for her to trust you. You want to be sure that she comes to you with questions about sexuality in the future. She still needs your help.

If you know you write pretty good, you can sell your story. If you’ve lived through some unusual experiences, you may be able to make money from your story. Magazines and websites will pay for everything from extreme weight loss through to family drama and first-person accounts of dramatic incidents. Options like Real People Mag focus on more extreme events and as much as £2,000 for featured stories. There are also groups like FeatureMe! on Facebook which feature journalists offering slightly less (typically £100-£500) for smaller features and less shocking stories.
