Why do I sometimes hear my name as if someone called me, where as no one actually did?

My grandma used to say if you hear your name called and nobody is there that it’s mostly an evil spirit and you shouldn’t answer. I live in the West and there’s tons of things like this that older people say. They say things like if you see a rocking chair rocking on it’s own then someone close to you is gonna die, and things like that. It’s pretty interesting to hear old superstitions like that.
Are you currently on any medications or using any drugs that might cause auditory hallucinations? From personal experience if I’ve smoked weed sometimes sounds sound like different. I might just think I heard the back door open but it was actually just my dog jumping off a chair, I’ll hear the air kick on but it sounds like someone downstairs having a conversation. I know sensory or auditory processing disorders can also cause this.
If you want to try to figure out if it’s magical I’d say start noting down in a journal exactly where you are and what you were thinking about every time you hear your name called.
