Well, that’s totally up to the person, you can choose to lie anytime and to anyone. You can also choose to let them know you don’t want them to know about what they’re asking you, and that seem like the best thing for me. Why should I stress myself lying to you? If you’re worth telling the truth then you’re not worth my lies even, so I’d rather let you know I don’t want to tell you instead of stressing myself and lying.
There are several circumstances that can warrant that you tell a lie. Myself for one, when someone talks to me or asks me about personal things and they ask in such a way that suggest they want deep details about me, if I don’t feel comfortable telling them, I lie. When people I don’t feel deep connection with ask me about my salary, I lie. Basically, when random people ask me personal questions I’d rather they don’t know, I simply lie instead of telling them I can’t tell them.
