Black Friday used to be the one single day in the year with the most massive discounts. It was the morning of Thanksgiving and the beginning of the holiday season when people would shop. But in recent years there a sales and discounts throughout the year so the significance of Black Friday has reduced.
It is the day after thanksgiving when people do their Christmas shopping and expect stores to have great deals and prices. It works out for both the consumer and the store because thousands of people plan on going to buy whatever it is they want and the stores get to make a huge profit on things that aren’t always as marked down as much as people think.
