Should I use antibiotics after an unprotected sex? Does it protect me against STIs?
There are instances where women are prescribed antibiotics for frequent use by their doctors. But these antibiotics are to be used after sex not to prevent STIs. They’re given to prevent UTIs- urinary tract infections and are often prescribed to women are who predisposed to getting UTIs easily.
Using antibiotics to protect yourself against fungal or viral infection isn’t going to work. One of the dangers of using antibiotics often is what is called antibiotic resistance. This resistance happens when the harmful organisms that cause infections find a way to protect themselves from antibiotics. Antibiotics is one of the greatest threat to global health and the major cause is using antibiotics wrongly or too often.
