Doctors do go on leave, but such a time comes once in a while and not as often as you may think. Depending on your level in the career: a resident would be reading to pass the exam ahead of him even when he has such time instead of travelling; a consultant would be busy with his Job and may have annual leave where they are given sometime to rest, this is once in a year. When a consultant is given such time, he may be working on a project to be become a Professor. A professor in turn may be busy with other problems to attend to even when he has such time. Doctors do have time but they are preoccupied with other things and that makes them socially withdrawn.
Doctors can take vacations; anything between 3-6 weeks a year is seen as the standard.
It’s not the easiest of professions to get time off and travel in though. What factors influence the vacation time of a doctor; How much vacation time certain specialists (ER, family, radiology etc) have. Opportunities doctors can explore to combine work and vacation time.
