Antacids can provide symptom relief but generally aren’t used to heal your ulcer. Medications that protect the lining of your stomach and small intestine. In some cases, your doctor may prescribe medications called cytoprotective agents that help protect the tissues that line your stomach and small intestine.
In peptic ulcer disease, antacids present a therapeutic effect by neutralizing gastric acid and reducing acid delivery to the duodenum. Furthermore, they reduce the activity of pepsin and have the capacity to bind bile acids. They provide temporary relief for some hours but they cannot be used to cure ulcer.
