Yes it is absolutely normal to sleep with your dog on the same bed especially if you are a hardcore pet lover. Dogs feel safe, secure and loved when they cuddle with their Pet Parent on the same bed. Serotonin – the happy hormones are released at night which actually help to strengthen the bond between you and your pooch. My Pug Summer loves to cuddle up with me on my bed. He also loves to have his favorite toy close to him. I do make it a point to keep him clean and groomed and clean and dry his paws when he comes back from a walk. He also has his own Doggie Bed which is so cosy and clean, but he rarely uses it. I also regularly check him for ticks and fleas as we do go for long walks and since we share the same bed, it has to be kept clean and hygienic. In some cases it is better to avoid sleeping in the same bed as your dog, as chances of skin infections. respiratory problems in young children or allergies to fur may be caused in humans if you share the same bed.
You should do what makes you comfortable with your pet and maintains a good relationship between you and the furry members of your family. Dogs do not need to sleep on your bed, nor is there any danger to yourself or others if they do. It’s a personal comfort thing and everyone, and every dog is different. When we got a dog, the first rule was “She will sleep in her kennel every night.”
That worked fine for almost two years. Then she started waking up in the middle of the night begging to be let out and after a week of sleeping like I had a newborn baby in the house, we decided She can sleep outside the kennel but never on the bed.
