Although, not many animals menstruate. Humans and old-world primates are about the only animals that undergo menses, of course with the exception of bats.

  1. While it’s very commonly believed that many mammals menstruate, menstruation is only found in humans and the Old World monkeys menstruate. Some other primates may menstruate. Menstruation has been found in four bat species. Bleeding from the vagina is found in some mammals like dogs, but this bleeding is not derived from the breakdown of the endometrium.

  2. They do, only not in the same way that humans do. The period of other mammals is called heat. They bleed like humans as their body gets prepared for pregnancy. During heat, their sexual organs swell; for example, in dogs the nipples as well as the visible part of the vagina swell when they become ready for mating. Most mammals cannot mate any other time other than when they are in heat; humans are of exception.
