Despite having backup I don’t have the recent files I had on my PC before formatting. How do I recover such data?

Yes you can and it will be very easy with the help of a professional data recovery software .
Minitool Power Data Recovery (free) is a good choice. It has 5 different data recovery modules. Different modules should be used to deal with different data loss situations. For example, “Undelete Recovery” module is used to recover deleted data while “Damaged Partition Recovery” is used to recover Windows data from logically damaged partition. After selecting suitable module, you will see detailed operating prompts.
It depends on how it was “formatted.”
If you did a simple format, you may be able to recover data with some simple consumer based tools. Likely, the file names will be lost.
If you did an OS reinstall (like a factory reset), there may be some recoverable data, but much data is permanently lost on overwritten sectors.
Unless you are experienced in these matters, you will want to employ a data recovery professional. The risk of further damage to data while learning how to recover data is non-negligible.
